Some smoothness results for classical problems in optimal design and applications.

The most classical problems related to the optimal mixture of two isotropic materials are probably the compliance and energy problem. In this talk, we give some smoothness results for the solutions of theses problems. These results apply to the smoothness of solution of another interesting problem consisting in minimizing or maximizing the first eigenvalue of a diffusion operator corresponding to the mixture via homogenization of two homogeneous scalar matrices. As a consequence we show that this last problem has not classical (unrelaxed) solution in general.
