LOCALIZED BOLTZMANN UPSCALING TECHNIQUES FOR FLUID SIMULATIONS

In the present talk, we will make a review of recent developed numerical algorithms to couple kinetic equations with finite volume like methods for the solution of the Euler equations. We will present different methodologies which permit to solve fluid dynamics problems with localized regions of departure from thermodynamical equilibrium. The methods rely on the introduction of buffer zones which realize a smooth transition between the kinetic and the fluid regions. We will consider also extensions of the buffer zone and dynamic coupling methods to the case of the Monte Carlo methods which permit to treat more realistic kinetic models in comparison with finite volume methods.
